Indeed, in 2019, the Hölstein Manufacture marks a turning point in its collections with its Big Crown ProPilot X Calibre 115, with an ultra-modern design and a high-performance calibre allowing up to 10 days of power reserve! This avant-garde aesthetic proposed a stylistic break with the vintage Big Crown and Sixty-Five watches that dominate Oris.For 2022, Oris is striking again with the follow-up to this collection, called Propilot X. While the signature of these watches is quickly recognisable, the letter X is again present, referring to a new calibre, this time the calibre 400. The rest is similar to what we found in 2019: a construction entirely in grade 2 titanium but this time with new proportions.Inspired by aviationThe ProPilot X Calibre 400 is part of a long line of Oris aviator’s watches dating back to the early 1900s, but it’s much more than that: it awakens the joy of mechanics. The Propilot is made entirely of titanium, with powerful, seductive lines. A metal that gives it robustness, lightness, corrosion resistance and hypoallergenic quality. In terms of design, we find the signature elements of the Big Crown ProPilot. Namely an oversized fluted crown and a bezel whose relief reminds the propellers of an aircraft engine. The same decoration distinguishes the transparent screwed back. However, it is much more modern with its sleek face and tapered case extending into an integrated wrist strap. The watch is very well executed, with sandblasted and satin finishes. The proportions are ideal, with a diameter of 39 mm allowing it to sit perfectly on the wrist.On this reference 01 400 7778 7158-07 7 20 01TLC, we find a sublime salmon pink counterbalancing the very technical side of the titanium grey. The whole is protected by a curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal!Technical sideThe Oris Calibre 400 presented in 2020 was designed to fit a wide range of models from the independent company. It was therefore logical to find this movement in this new ProPilot X range. Totally new and designed entirely by the Oris Manufacture, this automatic movement defines “the new standard of performance in watchmaking” according to the brand. Indeed, there are four important characteristics to remember about this calibre:Thanks to the use of two barrels, this Calibre 400 can deliver up to 120 hours of power reserve.It offers a precision of up to -3/+5 seconds per day, exceeding the COSC requirement of -4 to +6 seconds per day.Some thirty non-ferrous components are present within the Calibre, thus providing proven antimagnetism. One finds in particular an escapement wheel and a silicon anchor.It is guaranteed for ten years and only requires maintenance every ten years.Moreover, this calibre is visible on the back through a sapphire crystal. Its finishing is sober and corresponds to the philosophy of the calibre and the brand. One can appreciate a uniform sandblasting that brings out the different parts of this Calibre 400, and one can also notice the head of the teddy bear, the mascot of the house of Oris.
