This new model joins the Paris 2024 capsule collection, following on from the highly successful Seamaster Diver 300m sports watch and the Speedmaster Chronoscope quartetFor this model presented just a few days before the opening ceremony, the Biel-based Manufacture is not declining an existing model from the catalog, but reinterpreting a legendary model. The OMEGA Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition integrates the three legendary materials in a single model: gold, silver and bronze, the most emblematic awards for sporting success. The trio includes a 39mm case crafted in OMEGA’s own bronze gold, a radiant Ag 925 silver dial and fine 18-carat Sedna™ Gold hands with a special bronze gold PVD coating.A timeless design inspired by the pastOmega continues the recipe of its “London 2012” edition, presenting us with a watch with a vintage look inspired by one of its former references. Indeed, the Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition is inspired by a classic 1939 OMEGA wristwatch, dating back to the brand’s early years of timekeeping. This watch housed OMEGA’s famous 30T hand-wound small seconds calibre and featured the reference “CK 859” on the data sheets in relation to the material and shape of the case. The 39mm satin-finish case features a typical 1930s “coin” shape, with a flat central case and raised polished bezel. This set is fashioned in Bronze Gold, an alloy exclusive to the brand. Made by adding 37.5% gold, as well as palladium and silver, it can be worn in direct contact with the skin and offers a soft pinkish hue. This is a stable alloy that does not oxidize to verdigris. In addition to this unique material, the case retains the same proportions and design as the CK 859 watch, presented in a very small series in 2022: 39 mm in diameter by 11.7 mm thick and 46.2 mm from horn to horn.On the back of the watch is the engraved “BG 859”, a reference to Bronze Gold, as well as to the shape of the case. It alludes to the “CK 859” and “OT 859” references in the historical data sheets. As an Olympic watch, the caseback features an embossed and frosted medallion with the mirror-polished Paris 2024 logo, enhanced by the famous Olympic rings. To dress up the case, the watch is worn on a brown calf leather strap, fastened by a sand-blasted bronze-gold buckle with a polished vintage Omega logo in positive relief. The same vintage logo is also embossed on the watch’s crown.A “Clous de Paris” dialThe dial of this BG 859 is in silver, the alloy from which the medal is made for those in second place. The brand had already reinterpreted it in this material with the classic CK 859. This alloy confers a totally unique color and brilliance, and the Manufacture has decided to retain the “Sector Dial” layout so beloved of vintage watches from the 1940s, with different levels of construction, to offer a very appreciable relief to the eye. This dial offers notable features such as the “Clous de Paris” motif in the center of the watch face, which has its roots in French craftsmanship and remains an emblem of careful, elegant decoration. This decoration was created by stamping. OMEGA then went into even finer detail with a brushed circular satin pattern on the minute track and the small seconds sub-dial track at 6 o’clock, while the dark grey OMEGA logo is presented in the brand’s heritage style. To harmonize with the case color, the 18-carat Sedna gold hands have been coated with a layer of PVD bronze gold. The whole is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective treatment, inspired by the plexi glasses of the time. A hand-wound mechanical caliberThis BG 859 would not be an Olympic Games watch without guaranteeing the highest level of precision and performance. That’s why the timepiece is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 8926. This hand-wound movement is a modern homage to the vintage 30T2 movement which equipped the original 1939 reference CK 859. Now, this caliber is enhanced by a uniquely luxurious finish, with rhodium-plated bridges decorated with an arabesque Côtes de Genève motif. Not only is it beautifully finished, although hidden by the case back, it also remains highly technical. Equipped with two barrels, it offers a comfortable 72-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 3.5Hz. Certified Master Chronometer, it features a silicon balance-spring, coaxial escapement and high resistance to magnetic fields. A certification card proving that each customer’s watch has passed the Master Chronometer tests defined by METAS (the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology) is included in the piece’s special presentation box.
