Through the physical transformation of the object, through the work of designers, new perspectives are born. That’s why the Maison horlogère set itself a challenge: to metamorphose the design of the emblematic BR 03 line, without denaturing everything that makes up the strength and identity of one of the pillars of the house’s collections. To solve this equation, Bell & Ross decided to marry the BR 03 design with the graphic and futuristic codes of the Cyber collection, while avoiding traditional watchmaking forms. To achieve this, Bruno Belamich, co-founder and creative director of Bell & Ross, worked on redefining reality through faceted 3D creations. “Their works question our relationship to speed, sound and light,” Bruno Belamich emphasizes.The invisible gets noticedThe personality of a watch is expressed through the lines of its case. The uniqueness of the new BR 03 Cyber Ceramic lies in its faceting, which immediately evokes the powerful design of stealth aircraft whose sharp-edged fuselages have the technical characteristic of reflecting waves. Spy fighters, drones and strategic bombers are thus invisible to radar. By imagining a watch inspired by stealth design, Bell & Ross transposes the legibility of aircraft instruments to the wrist with a certain graphic flair. To take the concept of stealth invisibility a step further, Bell & Ross has chosen to openwork the dial and main components of the self-winding mechanical movement, the BR-CAL.383 caliber, with a particularly spectacular 3D skeletonization. “Of course, this faceting of lines is a nod to the digital arts. When the digital image freezes, it reveals the pixels that make it up,” emphasizes Bruno Belamich, Creative Director and co-founder of Bell & Ross.Matt Black: The hue of High-TechIt’s impossible not to immediately notice the new BR 03 Cyber Ceramic, not least because of its bold, specific hue. This matte black, paradoxically as discreet as it is spectacular, is very surprising for a watch. Indeed, it is unlike any other precious material used in traditional watchmaking. To achieve this, Bell & Ross has deliberately turned to more technical and contemporary components. For example, the 42 x 43.7 mm case is crafted in ceramic, a technical material that requires complex firing at very high temperatures, but offers tenfold resistance. “Diamond powder grinding resurfaced the facets, just as jewellers do when cutting a precious stone. To preserve the purity of the design, the lugs have disappeared and the rubber strap housing is cut into the volume of the case,” explains Bruno Belamich. Bell & Ross has also chosen ceramic, a high-tech material that is as solid as it is light, for the decoration of the twelve metallic hour-markers and logo, treated in glossy black under the surface of the anti-reflective sapphire crystal. With its faceted volumes and pure lines, this exceptional timepiece houses at the heart of its avant-garde design, a Manufacture movement guaranteed for 5 years.
